Basements
Lake Basement
This was a rather sizable undertaking. It was a typical 1928 basement on the Isthmus. The customer wanted to make a welcoming environment for two their young sons. I had to seal the concrete walls, address downspouts that directed water to the foundation away from the foundation. Open up an old coal scuttle and install glass blocks in that opening. Replaced all the basement windows with new thermal pane windows. I tore out and restored sufficient ceiling to enable the electrician to install significant new lights. Installed Dricore over the entire floor so that any seepage would stay below the floor. I framed up walls and insulated them. I fabricated wainscot and trim. Installed drywall above the wainscot. To maintain access to the electric box, I fabricated shelves on wheels that would stand in front of the electric box, but be movable for access to the electric box. Clad the support posts in wood and restored the basement bathroom. I put in much better shelving in the unfinished basement area. I hung new doors in all the openings. I rebuilt the stairs to the basement and built a desk under the stairs. I painted everything: walls, wainscot and trim and stained the desk. They had it carpeted.
